About Todd P Goes to Austin:
TODD P GOES TO AUSTIN is a cultural snap-shot of America’s underground, do it yourself music scene featuring unforgettable live performances from Matt and Kim, Dan Deacon, Mika Miko, The Death Set and many more. As record labels die, independents thrive. In the wake of Napster, MySpace and Facebook there is a generation of artists creating and performing music on their own terms. With the help of legendary DIY rock promoter Todd P, Brooklyn has become ground zero for these exciting young musicians. Using footage that includes material shot by the bands themselves, TODD P GOES TO AUSTIN exposes what life is like keeping your head above water while touring at the underground level. Interviews with Todd about the necessity of independent music and creativity connect the bands as they make their way to Austin, TX to perform in the DIY music scene’s answer to the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival.
Brooklyn based filmmaker, Jay Buim, co founded the arts collective Free Danger, is an editor for
Tokion Magazine and a producer for Nylon TV.
About Ghostly:
Ghostly International sprang onto the scene in 1999 amidst the collapse of the music busiensss. Part art gallery and part musical culture brand, Ghostly minest he international landscape for talent with a look towards the future and without the restriction of established genres or classification. The label's confidence was emboldened by an an initial roster of forward-thinking acts like instrumental hip-hop prodigy Dabrye, electronic beatsmith Matthew Dear, electronic/indie rock pioneers Midewest Product and a musical firebrand Dykehouse, approximating a minimal-yet-rich ronic template that married cold funk to mutant pop music, culminating in a palettable and perplexing array of sonics. Launched by a then 19-year old, Sam Valenti IV, the label was inspired by spending his formative years as a DJ and a love of visiting record stores and attending gigs. Their video features one of their newly signed artists, DJ/Producer Michna.
